Examining changes in bridge frequency due to damage using the contact-point response of a passing vehicle

Ongoing inspection and maintenance of bridges poses a challenging task for infrastructure owners who must manage large bridge stocks with limited budgets. Drive-by monitoring approaches, using sensors in vehicle, provide promising solution to this challenge. This paper investigates the use response at point-of-contact between tyre as means frequency. An expression is derived allow contact-point (CP) be inferred directly from in-vehicle measurements, expanding on previous studies by allowing vehicle suspension characteristics considered. The sensitivity CP-response pavement investigated detail rigid-disk model used overcome issues how existing vehicle-bridge interaction models consider wheel pavement. feasibility measure condition results show that significantly outperforms measured vehicle. successful identifying frequency changes caused damage, without being influenced frequencies. Incorporating into drive-by will improve accuracy over methods which alone.
